RIC VI, OSTIA [after 22] MAXENTIUS, UNLISTED ISSUE [VOT/X/FEL], OFFICINA Γ

OBVERSE

MAXENTI-VSPFAVG [MAXENTIVS P F AVG]; bust r., in lion's skin.

REVERSE

VOT/X/FEL in three lines in wreath. Γ in fourth line [also in wreath].

NOT IN RIC

UNLISTED ISSUE RIC lists similar issue [ROMA 241], but with m.m. RP-Q (p. 381). However, in footnote 3 Sutherland mentions that: "The A.N.S. possesses this variety with rev. VOT/X/FEL/B" (p. 381). At present, officinae Α, Β, Γ and Δ are attested. This proves that the issue in question should be attributed to Ostia, because Ostia was the only Maxentian mint which for some time used Greek letters for officina letter [OSTIA 14-22]. Note that specimen from officina Γ is listed in RIC as AQUILEIA 128 (p. 326); see also CORRIGENDA, VOL. VI, p. 326. Coin should be listed after OSTIA 22.
