REVERSE

GENIOA-VGVSTI [GENIO AVGVSTI]; Genius stg. l., modius on head (sometimes also radiate), naked but for chlamys over l. shoulder, r. holding patera (from which liquor flows), l. cornucopiae. Star in left field, Β in right field. •SM•TS• in exergue.

UNLISTED OBVERSE LEGEND. RIC lists for Licinius' coins from this issue only legend: VAL LICINIVS [one "N"] P F AVG (p. 514). This very rare variant of obverse legend is to be found only on coins minted at Thessalonica. However, the probably earlier variant VAL LICINNIVS P F AVG [double "N"; spelling used in the Eastern mints: Cyzicus, Antioch and Alexandria] was not known at all. Coin should be listed before THESSALONICA 30b.
